Being an administrative assistant is a very rewarding job. However, it is not as simple as it may seem, as an administrative assistant is required to be very professional and very capable of accomplishing the many tasks of being one. And sometimes, when the situation calls for it, they must be able to do things outside their job description, hence the need for experience on other areas of work. If they are able to meet these requirements, then they have already secured a fruitful partnership with the company and will be rewarded appropriately for their hard work.

Becoming a Good Administrative Assistant

Admin assistants are required to be very hardworking, as they have plenty of tasks to handle and work on. Not only that, they must be very patient and cool-headed at all times, as this line of work can be very stressful.

Another important trait is having discipline. This is because their work requires paying constant attention to everything, which means that there is little to no room for error.

The Common Tasks of an Administrative Assistant

To be successful, they must be able to perform all of these tasks. Here is a partial list of the many tasks of an administrative assistant:

Being an admin assistant demands basic knowledge of the computer and all its features and functionalities. This is because most tasks are done through the computer, and most of these tasks are made easier with the use of a computer. Word processing, making spreadsheets and presentations, keeping important files and folders are some of the many basic computer tasks administrative assistants should know about.

While most tasks are done with the help of a computer, some administrative tasks are done manually. For example, when taking notes from business meetings with clients, they will need to have good listening capabilities so that they can take down the most important highlights of the meeting, as well as being able to quickly take down these notes. Other examples of administrative tasks that are done manually are taking phone calls, gathering information about clients, making meetings and appointments, etc.

If the manager is out due to various reasons (i.e. on a vacation, handling other things on other offices or branches, etc), the administrative assistant should be able to lead the team. A good admin assistant must be able to demonstrate good leadership skills, even when their manager is not around. They must also make sure that work output stays the same even when the manager is out of the office.

Remember, being an administrative assistant may be a rewarding job, but in order for you to reap the rewards, you will need to work hard at it. A professional administrative assistant will go great lengths in order to accomplish their tasks and dedicate themselves in order for the company to prosper.
